    1976-1979

Shaping the future with new ideas

Together Blaguss Reisen GmbH and ÖBB's car service create a traffic concept for central Burgenland. The lines from Vienna to Operpullendorf are jointly operated. The joint transport brings passengers many benefits: schedule-service compression, shorter travel times for commuters, introduction of fast routes, comfortable, modern buses. Benefits that other commuters only obtained after the introduction of transport associations in 1988 are already available at Blaguss.

Blaguss has participated in the Austratrans road service operating company m.b.H. since 1976. This service conducts an average of eight lines for guest workers to Yugoslavia from Vienna's South Station.

Incoming business is successful. Burgenland is discovered as an attractive holiday destination. To make the market more efficient, Burgenland and Blaguss Reisen found "Burgenland Tours GmbH" in June 1976.

Blaguss founds travel bureaus in Eisenstadt and Mattersburg. Thus customers have access to modern travel bureaus with a full product range in all of Burgenland's northern and central districts.

    1929-1938

The beginning of an Austrian success story

Paul Blagusz is born on 13 January 1907 in Unterpullendorf. He attends two classes in Hungarian primary school. When his father dies he goes to Bucklige Welt and learns German there.

From age 11 he works on a farm in Pöttsching and begins offering national products from former Hungary at the Viennese Neustädter market. In June 1926 Paul receives his own authorization to 'deal in eggs, butter, poultry, venison, and mushrooms'.

He brings wares of all kinds by rail to Vienna's Naschmarkt. Transportation is difficult and arduous. In that same year he manages to procure a lorry, Perl make. Since other dealers want to ride with him he begins to organize regular transports to Vienna.

    Challenging early years
On 19 April 1929 Paul Blagusz obtained the concession for practising the pay wagon profession. The dealer became the transport operator Blagusz.

The Austrian province of Burgenland slowly enshrines itself as an Austrian state in the people's consciousness. Many Burgenlanders emigrate because they can't find work in the border region. But Paul Blagusz and his brother Stefan stay and build up the business together. With two lorries they transport people, animals, furniture, and goods. The rides are often long and adventurous. Thus the ride from Oberpullendorf to Vienna takes seven hours.

In 1932 the vehicle fleet consists of three lorries (makes Perl, Austro Fiat, and Gräf). A Perl L 6, with a sturdy bus structure and crank windows is used for the first excursions. The business faces the difficult economic situation and becomes an important transportation carrier for the Oberpullendorf district.

In July 1935 Blagusz obtains the concession to 'issue tickets for lorry trips and for organizing group excursions with such'. Thus the foundation for the travel bureau is laid.
